Laser Hair Removal Pre-Booking Checklist

Laser Hair Removal is a life changing treatment for many and offers a lasting reduction in unwanted body hair. Despite the many positive aspects to this amazing treatment there are a few things that you should be aware of before you opt into a course of treatments with any clinic. Use the following for your laser hair removal pre-booking checklist.

Initial Laser Consultation

Are you getting an in-depth consultation with an experienced consultant or a pushy salesperson? It is important that your consultation is not about the sale but about you and your suitability for laser treatment. Your results depend on this consultation. Always resist ‘pay on the day of your consultation’ deals. Take time to make the right choice for you.

Hygiene

Ensure that your clinic is hygienic in all aspects. Don’t be afraid to have a look at the handpiece of the laser machine to ensure that it is clean before your treatment. Therapists should also use a fresh pair of gloves for each treatment.

Medical Grade Lasers – (Not IPL)

You should always ask for a medical-grade laser. We have used Cynosure Elite (Alexandrite and Nd:YAG) for the past 10+years.  Undoubtedly these lasers that will give lasting results from your treatments in fewer sessions.

Treatment times

Laser Hair Removal should not rushed in any way. Cutting treatment times can lead to laser being a very painful process. We allocate proper treatment times so you can take small breaks if needed for certain areas. Due to hair being thicker at the start of your treatment course this is important.

Different Types of Lasers

The best clinics have many different types of lasers for removing hair. Alexandrite (treats pale skin types) and Nd:YAG (treats darker skin types). It is important that your clinic has different lasers for different skin types. In order to get the best results possible in the safest way, the correct laser must be used.

Staff

Are all staff that are using lasers at the clinic highly trained and supervised? Do they have over 2 years experience working with  Laser? Do they know how to safely get you the best results from your treatments? Are they dedicated hair removal therapists? These are all questions you absolutely need to ask. All of our staff are fully trained, certified and insured to perform treatments. Hair removal is not what we do, it’s all we do. We also designate one therapist to each client so results can be monitored every step of the way.

Clinic’s Reputation

The best source of information to research any laser clinic is to go to forums such as Google, Whatclinic, Yelp etc. Search for postings on the clinic. Forums are heavily moderated and commercial postings are not allowed by clinics.

Dedicated Hair Removal Clinic

Ensure that the clinic specialises in laser hair removal. You will have access to the best lasers, therapists and will achieve the best results. Our lasers are serviced on a monthly basis to ensure they are operating at optimum levels. For this reason, you can be sure to get the best out of each one of your sessions with us.

Honest and realistic advice

For example, if a clinic tells you that you will achieve 100% removal after 6 sessions please do not believe them. Laser Hair Removal offers a permanent reduction in hair growth, not full removal. 6-10+ sessions will be needed initially. Generally, people will experience 80-85% hair reduction in their treated areas. Results will need to be maintained with follow up treatments a couple of times a year.

Aftercare and Followup

It is important that if you’re not 100% satisfied with your laser treatments you will be listen to. The clinic should have a strong aftercare and followup procedure. These aftercare and followup consultations should always be with the same therapist who performed your treatments. In order to improve results, review appointments should be booked throughout your course of treatment.

These questions are important, in order for you to get the best out of your course of treatments. Laser is a commitment, with this in mind do your research. Please use our laser hair removal pre-booking checklist as a guide.

Your consultation and patch test is the first step in making sure you get the best out of your treatments. A patch test is absolutely necessary before you start. Laser can affect the skin in many different ways so put your safety first and insist on this.
