Does Laser Hair Removal Work For PCOS?

Yes, laser hair removal works for women who have experienced an increase in hair growth due to PCOS.  Polycystic Ovary Syndrome can have a dramatic effect on the body’s natural hormone levels.  Excessive hair growth is often a direct result of this condition.

What level of results can I expect from laser hair removal if I have PCOS?

In many cases, those suffering from PCOS can achieve excellent results from laser hair removal treatment. Excess facial and body hair will reduce quite quickly. It can also offer life-changing benefits for those whose self-confidence may have taken a knock as a result of this condition. Typically women with this condition would need more sessions of laser to achieve their desired result. In most cases,10-12 sessions are required on the body and 12+ sessions are needed on the face.

Most women with PCOS see amazing results from treatment. Top up or maintenance treatments are required every 12-15 weeks indefinitely (especially for facial hair growth). It is important to note however that although laser will not provide a 100% permanent result in hair growth.  Hairs will be considerably finer, lighter and will be much slower to regrow.

Why Do I Need So Many Laser Sessions With PCOS?

Laser treatment cannot influence internal hormone irregularities within the body. As laser hair removal works on the surface of the skin there are limitations as to what it can achieve. With PCOS, hair growth is persistent and resilient. Advanced medical grade lasers ensure the best possible results. For some clients, there may be some restrictions on how effective laser treatment can be.

As everyone’s hormone profile is different, the frequency and number of  treatments will depend on the person. Larger body areas may require less frequent maintenance treatments. However, you should expect that facial hair will need to be maintained every 8-12 weeks.

Why is a laser hair removal consultation important before you start?

A consultation and patch test is without doubt the most important part of your treatment course. To make sure your hair is suitable for laser it should be assessed first.  It’s also comforting for you to see the surroundings and meet us so you feel comfortable and relaxed before starting.

Your hair colour and hair density will need to be checked before you start to make sure they are suitable. If these are not checked there is a chance that your hair may not be dark enough for treatment. If you start laser and your hair is not suitable you could be wasting your time and money.

In order to establish how many sessions you will need for laser hair removal we will need to assess your areas. We will chat to you about how PCOS affects you and will discuss why your results may vary so you fully understand what to expect. Due to these issues it’s important to give you realistic expectations so you are aware of what can be achieved. Every aspect of laser is explained in detail so you understand what’s involved.
