Is it safe to laser over varicose veins?

No, it is not safe to laser directly over varicose veins. These veins are best avoided during laser hair removal treatment.

Intense pulses of light and energy are used during laser treatment. As varicose veins protrude out of the skin and are raised if they are subjected to large amounts of heat this could cause damage to the vein. Varicose veins can also cause discomfort and a sense of heaviness in the legs.  These veins can be very painful so it is essential that laser is not pulsed directly over them. Varicose veins do not prevent you from having laser but it does limit laser treatment in some areas. Some areas will have to be avoided and you will still see some growth but all other areas of the legs can be treated successfully.  It is not safe to laser directly over varicose veins and we will avoid them.

Spider veins are small, damaged veins that sit at the very surface of the skin. These do not protrude the surface of the skin and will not cause any adverse reactions during laser treatment.
