Varicose veins and laser
BWhat are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are veins that have become swollen and enlarged. They are blue or dark purple in colour and also appear to bulge out of the skin. These veins are very common and are caused by weak or damaged vein walls or valves. Veins have small valves inside them that allow blood to flow in one direction towards the heart. If a vein is damaged the blood flow is compromised as a result. Blood may not be pushed forward in the vein and may remain causing the vein to fill up and cause a varicose vein. Laser hair removal must be carried out with caution if you have varicose veins. In order to avoid any complications from laser these veins must be avoided.
These veins can become painful and cramps can occur if too much pressure is applied to the legs. They also leave the legs feeling quite heavy and uncomfortable. These veins can be surgically removed if they are severe.
Having these veins does not prevent you from having laser hair removal on your legs. However, because these veins can be painful it is important that the laser is not directly pulsed over them during treatment. The area around these areas can be treated successfully providing the hair is suitable for treatment. It is important that varicose veins are looked after and treated with caution as if they bleed it can be cause for concern. Varicose veins must be avoided during laser hair removal treatment.
