Caesarean section scars and laser hair removal
If you have had a caesarean section and you have a scar you can have laser hair removal. This will only affect treatment if you are having laser on your bikini area. If you have had a caesarean section and are having laser on your underarm this will not affect your treatment. Some women will have C-section scars further down the pubic area than others. This may limit laser in some areas depending on how old the scar is and if it has fully healed. If your scar is higher up and outside your hair line we can fully treat your bikini area without any issues. If your scar is located in an area where there is hair it should be avoided. It is only safe to perform laser hair removal over a C-section scar if it has fully healed.
How long to wait after a C-section before laser?
We would recommend waiting at least 3 months before considering laser hair removal on the bikini area after you have a caesarean section. It is essential that if you are having laser hair removal where your scar is located that laser not be performed over this area. This scar should be completely avoided during treatment.
Treatment in this area will be determined by how quickly you heal. We would need to wait until the scar has completely healed before treating over it. This may take anything from a few months for some people to years for others. When we are performing laser we are using a combination of heat and light on the skin. If we treat a C-section scar too soon we may cause more trauma to the skin. For most people the scar will turn from a pink/red colour to a silvery colour over time.
We would always recommend to wait at least 3 months after baby has been born before considering laser hair removal. This time frame allows for your body to heal and also for your hormones to readjust. We feel it’s important to give yourself the time you need to recover from your C-section.
